Southside Master Gardener Association Yard Sale -

The Southside Master Gardener Association is having a Yard Sale, to be held at the Halifax Farmers Market Building in Halifax on April 2nd. It will start at 8am until 1pm.

The SSMGA is asking for donations of items for the yard sale. These items can be dropped off at the Halifax Farmers Market (Old Farmers Food) starting Saturday March 26 from 10am - 2pm and again from 4pm - 8pm; also on Sunday the 27th from 1pm - 4pm. From Monday - Friday (March 28-Apr 1) before the sale someone will be at the site to accept items from 10-2pm and from 4-8pm.

All money earned from this yard sale will go the Southern Virginia Botanical Gardens & Environmental Education Center.

The South Hill Ruritan Club will host the 2nd annual South Hill Ruritan Club Antique Machinery and Vehicle Show on April 2 and 3 at the Dixie Tobacco Warehouse Complex on Country Lane in South Hill. The event will be 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days. Admission is free and there will be over 200 units of farm equipment, cars, draft horses, mules, steam engines, sawmill demos, civil war displays, bouncy toys, barrel and train rides, lots of vendors with wares of all kinds, food and more. Bring your prized vehicle to show off at the car show or your tractor or farm vehicle of any kind. Celebrate the farming heritage of our community at this event that will give you a taste of life as it was lived years ago.

First annual Lake Country Quilters� Quilt Show -

First annual Lake Country Quilters� Quilt Show at the Clarksville Presbyterian Church, 10 am-4 pm. Quilters and quilt-lovers are invited to attend this first annual event, $3 admission fee. The 22nd annual Virginia Beef Expo -

The 22nd annual Virginia Beef Expo should be an exciting and educational three-day event for the region�s beef cattle industry. The Expo will be held Friday through Sunday, April 15-17 at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds just south of Harrisonburg, Virginia. The Beef Expo was organized to showcase Virginia�s beef cattle seedstock industry. The Virginia Beef Expo is the gathering place for the region�s cattle breeders, commercial producers and industry suppliers. The Expo is the largest beef-oriented event on the East Coast and draws cattle producers from Maine to Georgia to Indiana and more.

New this year: the Virginia FFA State Tractor Driving Competition

In additional to the cattle sales, shows, trade show and contests, there will be great beef ribeye sandwiches available for lunch and beef cooking demonstrations. There is no admission charge and everyone is welcome to attend and learn more about Virginia�s innovative cattle industry.

This year the Festival will combine the annual FLORA FEST, EARTH DAY and CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS into one large event. There will be Live History at the Court House area, lots of displays and articles for sale, entertainment, childrens activities, a parade and food court.

Haw Hee, sponsored by the Chase City Ruritan Club, has been entertaining Mecklenburg County since 1975 , with Friday and Saturday night shows beginning at 7:00 P. M. at the Robert E. Lee Auditorium on Hwy. 92 in Chase City, VA. The profit is used to support the local community; Chase City Rescue Squad, Chase City Fire Department, Little League, Food Pantry and others. We have some amazing local talent who volunteer their time to travel to Chase City and perform for Haw Hee. We have music, magic, and comedy. It is a great family entertainment show for a good cause.

6th Annual Chatham Rotary Community Auction -

The Chatham Rotary Club holds several events during each year to fund club donations and Rotary Service Projects in our community as well as communities around the world.

Chatham Rotary�s primary fundraiser is our auction, this year being the Sixth Annual. Over $50,000 has been raised over the past five auctions, most of which has been invested in local projects that have had a positive impact on our region. The Chatham Rotary Community Auction for this year will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Chatham Community Center beginning at 6:00 PM. We welcome partners, sponsors, and participants to the local event to join with the club in supporting the Town of Chatham and surrounding areas. The admission price of $25 per person will include a buffet dinner, music entertainment and dancing, the opportunity to bid on items for a charitable cause, and a lot of fun with friends and neighbors. Annual Southside Master Gardener Association Plant Sale -

The annual Southside Master Gardener Association Plant Sale will be held on April 30 from 7:30 a.m. until noon in the parking lot outside the Halifax County Extension Office. All types of plants will be available including annuals, herbs, perennials, vegetables, shrubs and trees. The sale will offer some special features such as hypertufa containers, bamboo poles and a bake sale.

Master Gardeners will be available to answer your gardening questions throughout the sale.

The South Boston Jaycees are making preparations for the 17th Annual Jeff Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament to be held at Greens Folley Golf Course on Friday May 6th.
The tournament is held in memory of Jeff Nelson. He was a dedicated Jaycee, who tried as all of the Jaycees do to live by their motto �service to humanity is the best work of life.�
The primary beneficiary of this year's event is the Halifax County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Saturday, May 14, at 10:00am the Annual Pigg River Ramble kicks off with a competitive style float down the Pigg River, with canoeists/kayakers from all over the East Coast.

Sunday, May 15, at 7:00am Breakfast on the Blackwater starts off with a homestyle breakfast and wraps up the weekend with one more float down the Blackwater River.
